Yea man, I am never dragging a deer that far again. I'm either gonna find a framed rucksack or a pop up 28.

I am repurposing an REI internal frame hiking backpack this trip, hooefully it works well and i wont feel obliged to drop big money on a new pack

Well I hate to say it but the majority of my season is over, and right when the rut is about to hit.

Here's the story for my all day sit last Saturday, got to see lots of new things and wanted to share.

It was a cool, windy morning on the mountain. Hiked 2 miles that morning to a spot I had scouted the weekend prior, got there right at grey light. Climbed the tree, and had a palmated 6 point walk out before I had my gun up! I was able to pull it up in between him walking behind trees to check him, but the WMA is managed for quality bucks (4 on one side) so I had to let him walk.

Around 1 o'clock I had two does come in (this hunt was buck only) and actually got to watch them fight for about 15 minutes. They were rearing back like kangaroos, and would put their heads down like bucks - was totally cool to watch.

Later that evening I got to watch 2 gobblers fly up to roost.

I got drawn in a lottery hunt so I'm heading down tomorrow after work, camping thru Sunday morning. Its another quality buck area, but it's my first time winning a lottery so maybe my luck will continue

I am planning on heading out for a sit today for the last 3 hours of the day. I will try to go around back to the other road and get in that way to avoid conflict with certain individuals.

I'm off all week, been hunting hard with no luck at all. But I keep getting closer. Had a rifle permit for a wma here last weekend, saw several small bucks but nothing legal. To be a legal buck there it has to have a 15" spread, or 18" main beam. I've got some really good deer found there and will continue to bowhunt it some the rest of the year. I plan to hunt private most of this week and hopefully can get a deer or two down.

Yo red, had an idea. There should be a subforum for beginners, with sticky pins on the best threads on FAQs - like the official backpack thread, repelling, what ropes, what platform, etc. You know, the stuff that always gets asked when people dont use search button

Just a thought

I was out on Monday for the last two hours and saw no squirrels, deer or hunters. I am going this afternoon but I better quit early since tomorrow could be a zoo of hunters. If I shoot a deer late, I could ruin someone's hunt again.

Hunt your hunt. If you make a shot deal with that when the time comes. Don't let someone's tomorrow hunt dictate your todays hunt

There is a section for new saddle hunters. If something doesn't get put in there it's hard to police though. Anyone can start a thread with links to useful threads though! ;-)
