Went out all day yesterday. Saw a huge pig and about stepped on a deer doing some scouting but nothing in the stand. Getting back out all day Tuesday then thanksgiving weekend will be out with the rifle in Alabama.

Alabama is just starting to turn on good. Had a great encounter with an 8 point last night. Going back in tonight to hopefully get it done!

Our rifle season opened in Arkansas this past weekend. I went in deep on some public that is bow only and found a stud 8 point. After scouting for most of the day on Saturday, I came across about 4 decent rubs and a scrape, so I set up. About 20 minutes later he came in to about 30, but gave me no shot. I had setup to shoot the scrape, but he never checked the scrape when he came through. I’ll definitely be back in after him.

Missouri's rifle season opened on Saturday. I was able to shoot a small 8 point but unfortunately I wasn't sitting in a saddle.

Blah. I suck. Not sure if I got busted or they saw me move. Had a good buck go running off, or some one pushed him from further away. Not sure. Thick brush. Possibly he saw me before I saw him. Then later I had some does on my off side. Moved around to try and get the scope on them to take a big one, and missed the other 2 there as well. Busted again. All well.

Some days it feels like nothing goes right, still beats sitting at work wishing you were there though

Headed out tomorrow. Hoping to get one in range but feel a little late for the rut. Things where pretty hot end of October where I’m going but the season closed then. Got a spot to sit for the morning and I’ll move around if it doesn’t pan out.

Was beating myself up this morning after bumping what seemed like a buck 10 yards from the tree I had hung a stand on last weekend. It blew a couple times and ran across the creek about 45 minutes before legal light. Took way to long to get up in the tree and settled and right after I did I heard a deer crashing through the creek below me just before legal light. Never saw it so might’ve been going the other way. The squirrels kept me on my toes all morning and at about 7:45 I heard what I assumed was the same one I’d been listening too all morning behind me, until the noise kept creeping towards me sounding more and more like a deer the closer it got. Eventually I see a doe walking along the ridge just below me only about 10 yards away. She stopped broadside at about 5 yards and I hit high and got her in the spine and dropped her. Nocked another and got her in the heart with the second and she died in about 20 seconds. First public land, saddle, bow and Georgia deer. Maybe should’ve waited to see if a buck was trailing her but hard to pass up a 5 yard shot. Got her donated for hunters for the hungry. Lost the broadhead in the spine and that arrow broke too. Trying to decide if I want to go to a 2 blade or stick with the snuffers since I’m down to 2 heads now.

Congrats on the first bow kill. I started shooting 2 blades this year and have liked them, but haven't put them through an animal yet.

Congrats jtw0057!!!! Meat in the freezer and points on the board for 11!!

I’m headed out in the morning to some public with the slug gun. I don’t have super high hopes for the place I’m going, as it gets a lot of pressure on the weekends but we’ll see.

Ordered some cutthroats and should have them soon. Also got the email about grizzlystik sale so ended up getting some samurais as well to test out. Hopefully one of them will fly decent. If not I still got 2 of the snuffers left.

If you've got good arrow flight, then those should both fly well for you

I know my momentum 320s fly good bareshaft but I just got half a dozen bloodlines to replace them since they are way too expensive and I only got 3 left.

Well these showed up quick. First impressions are man they are in rough shape. Took about 20 minutes to get one side to hunting sharp (second pic). Guess I got 5 more of those to do and then I’ll start testing them out next week when I get a chance.

@slonstdy what kinda food sources you finding out there? Thinking about diving into some public since gun seasons on public is over. Not sure how hard it's been pressured. Most of it around me is small areas. Hopen to get another deer on the ground.

Red oak acorns and browse will be the main sources unless there is ag around the public this time of year, and depending on the red oak crop this year those may be depleted already

Do red oaks typically start dropping around now or do deer not eat them until later in the season? There’s a couple big ones in my works parking lot that where dropping back in September real heavy. I’m pretty new to this and have always heard people say red oaks are a late season food source but wasn’t sure if they drop now or deer/ other animals just wait to eat them till later in the season.
