Wow smoker!!! Great buck! I am starting to see some action heating up in the north east just recently ... I have 3 days to hunt this weekend and I will be laying just about anything down I can as it is the last weekend to use the tags for bow season. No more being too selective

Well since it has been so long since you shot a deer it is easy to understand why you can't remember how to score deer for the contest. Lol. Congrats man! Just have to give you a hard time.....

I was able to add to our points this weekend. I killed an 8 point with my rifle on public land with my Mantis. I still have some tags left so I'll try to fill another one using the saddle.

A couple weeks ago I went to Wyoming on my first out of state hunt. I killed a nice mule deer in velvet. I couldn't use him for the competition though because I didn't kill him out of a saddle. Picture is attached of the mule deer.

That's right. Get them! Lol. Wish i was allowed to enter more than 2 deer. We have a lot of does in the area here. Buck quality is just not but so great.... Best of luck to you all.

I'm dead weight too. Chasing one deer on a limited amount of allowed hunting time is a bad choice!
I watched a doe hanging around his bedroom last night. I'm almost certain looking for him by the way she was acting. I have a feeling he might not have survived opening day of gun. Or maybe relocated and I'll snag him on the next sit in there.

I plan on moving on to fill the freezer soon.

I also killed a buck on the ground this past weekend. I feel bad that I can't use it for the competition. On the other hand, we were doing some deer drives in the river bottoms. My buddy killed a 6 point on one of the pushes and then I killed another 6 point on our last push of the day. Even though the bucks aren't huge, it was some of the most fun I've had in a long time. 5 buddies together doing deer drives. Can't beat it. It's also the first time we've ever killed anything on a drive.

There is one thing I hate about the contest and that is that it makes people feel bad for not hunting out of their saddle. Hunting is supposed to be about the fun and yet I find myself worrying about killing a deer out of my saddle for the sake of points.

Rant over... Great job on the bucks guys!

That's why the contest is only for fun :). It ultimately doesn't matter!

I've been passing on a lot of little bucks and does with fawns.
Most of my productive spots have been wiped out from snow collapsing security cover, and other hunters blowing up bedding areas.

Looks like a lot of more run and gun in my future. I'm having a mental breakdown thinking about going back to the swamp. But it's looking like the best bet.

Do what you need to do to get it done. I’ve been tracking since we got our snow. This is all for fun!
