I picked the coolest (relative) day we were going to get for the next week and went out this morning to pull cards out of some cameras and scout around a little bit.

I pulled a card and scouted up a creek system and found a spot where a couple of hills dump down into the creek valley and the creek has been dammed up by some beavers. Along the tip of one of these points I found sign of an old scrape. I went along looking for more sign thinking to myself (half-jokingly) to be on the lookout for a balloon. Well, as if on que I look up the bank and there on the back side of a log is a blue party balloon. It has been there a while and is covered with pine needles. About 8 yards up the hill is a depression tucked under a small tree that looks like a deer bed. It hasn't been occupied in a while but was likely a buck bed during rut or per rut. Down the hill along the water, I found a fresher bed among some reeds. I put a camera out over the spot. Maye I'll get lucky.

The camera run all told was a disappointment. I got some does on camera but no bucks. I may just stop messing with cameras.

I was just talking about this with my father in law as we where looking at a balloon. He said my brother keeps finding them on his property in the same bench area when mowing the blackberries.they are just over the first ridge a mile right outside town. only thermals explain the same benches getting balloons when the rest of a unit dont see one in a lifetime. Only an opinion.

Yeah. I know I guy who has been putting those all over the public near me. He claims that it helps keep people out of his hot spots.:tearsofjoy:
So, he's finding good buck bedding sign and then placing a mylar balloon in the spot so other hunters will key in on it, lol.

No No No! He's putting them in the least likely spot you'd ever find a deer of any kind much less a trophy buck. That way there will be 27 guys hunting right beside the parking lot and he can have the whole place to himself. lol

Just found a spot with balloons this weekend. This is not an area I would normally scout because to me it was too open looking, but when I seen the balloons I dropped a pin immediately to scout the area.

Whether people believe the balloon theory or not, I do know an annual success spot on private I used to hunt had balloons, so not saying I'm buying the whole enchilada but I'm not ignoring the sign either.

I think they make forms for your balloons, I only hope you have enough wall space for them all!

Went into an area where I found a ton of scrapes/rubs last year. Not so much this year except one historical rub, tree was rubbed good this year again. Working my way in I jumped a deer (could not see if it was a doe/buck), a lone deer about 40 yards in front of me. Went right over to find its bed up against a blow down and approx. 10 yards away lays a balloon. Always makes you wonder.

Same happened to me yesterday. Went to an area that I saw a ton of sign last year and got my first buck at. Sure enough on the ground along a main trail was a balloon. My daughter was with me and was asking why I took a picture of a balloon on the ground!

I thought this whole thread was a joke...not so much now
