Any feedback on how well the internet box works? Cost? Can you take a video web meeting or just respond to email, browse, etc?
I'm actually pretty dumbfounded at how well this thing works! I work in tech so I have some pretty strict requirements on my internet connection. My bandwidth fluctuates anywhere from 100Mbps to 20Mbps down and about 40Mbps to 10Mbps upload. Pings average about 40ms to 70ms
Just the other day I was troubleshooting an issue over zoom with a vendor while connected over VPN with zero hiccups. I am just as capable of doing my work from basecamp as I am from home. The only caveat is that you need a pretty clear view of the north sky as obstructions will cause connection drops on regular intervals.
As far as power consumption goes, you're looking at roughly 40 to 80 watts of power draw (depending on if the morning dew has frozen over your dish). With the starlink, laptop, second monitor, and phone charger I'm pulling about 150W of power on average.
As far as cost goes, the starlink hardware cost me about 600, and a monthly charge of 135 (added cost of roaming enabled). Since I concocted this scheme starlink now offers a RV package which is a little cheaper per month for about the same functionality/bandwidth.
Overall I'm pretty impressed with the connection, this will probably power my remote work hunting season for here on out (both out west and at home).
