Searched this and other forums and didn't come up with much on aerial archery so I thought I'd try to start discussion about it.

The rapidly moving target idea intrigues me and I finally found a flu-flu design that's worth a dern (spiral wrap) so I'm making a couple targets up and we'll give it a go. Constructed a couple disc targets this morning by taping some 1" thick foam and some cardboard together.

Having a hard time finding info on how one "tunes" a flu-flu. Made my flus from 500s and fling them from a 40lb ILF bow when stump shooting or playing arrow golf in the yard. Decided to go with lower poundage for this aerial endeavor so I put together an old Sage I had laying around with 35lb limbs (probably less at my 27" draw). Wondering if I should get some 600s just for this or stick with the current 500s.

I'd love to hear if any of yall ever ventured into the aerial target world and how it went.

I joined an archery class as a kid when I got into bowhunting. Held at a church with a big playground/field. I’d say 2-300 yards long.

Teacher wanted to get us boys excited about getting better at shooting. So he pulled out his recurve and fluflu’s, and had one of us throw up a target. First try he nailed it. Obviously we were impressed.

He asked who wanted to go first, and I obliged.

I drew my 65lb compound back with what was probably a 250gr carbon arrow setup. He tossed the target up and I gave it a whirl. We all watched in silence as my arrow made its way across the distance of the field and into the roof of a gas station on the other end.

Teacher decided we should take indoor lessons the rest of the session inside the gym.

I haven’t shot at a flying object since.

I have spiral wrapped. It's easier to use a full feather height and not chop it or put it on a burner. 3 four inch work well. 4 slow it down even more. Get some judo condors and have fun.

@GCTerpfan got the proverbial (and literal) ball rolling when he introduced me to shooting a partially deflated basketball. Had great fun with that. Even more fun when trying to shoot it while it was still rolling along after kicking it. And now this... :D

We used to shoot at aerial targets a lot when I was a younger. We had a 12” foam disc with a 6” knock out center. We also used to shoot change out of the air and even went as small as Tylenol as we were always trying to one up each other. The change and Tylenol were only at around 5 yds or so and obviously we didn’t hit them every time but you would be surprised how close you get on almost every shot. Nowadays it would worry me sick sailing arrows five feet past someone’s head as they flipped a quarter in the air but it didn’t bother us back then.

Next time your up ask my dad about the time my sister and cousin hit the same face of a nickel at the same time.

We also used to duct tape a balloon in the center of a tire, roll it down a hill and try to shoot the ballon out of the center.

I wouldn’t worry about tune, just fling whatever old arrows you have that are close in spine. Flu flu’s straighten out pretty quickly.

We all used to snap shoot back then which is one of the reasons I don’t do it anymore. I shoot much better with a controlled shot and I am afraid if I start shooting moving targets I’ll start to develop snap shooting habits again.

Tim Wells has a bunch of archery bird hunting videos on his YouTube channel (tim wells bow hunter). That dude can shoot lights out, but his narration style gets a bit hard on the ears in my opinion. Also some of his hunting choices may open some ethical debates (not trying to do that here, just full disclosure about "recommending" him as a resource).

He is a good instinctive shooter. Or at least the content he makes public appears that way. Some of the blowgun and spear chuckin vids are a little unethical for me but im guilty of watching til the end lol. I mean you gotta draw the line somewhere and his line seems to be right after dropping a rock off a cliff on a big game animal in africa. I like his hairband buddy that hunts with him too. Just a classic 90's vibe hunting show.

His daughter Sydney (barstool outdoors) is easy on the eyes and not as cringey to listen to narrating (he talks very highly of himself). I would never want to date the slockmaster's daughter though. Can you imagine...
