The Helo is Getting me Out of the Saddle

Lol! Guess not. The one thing I need to mention about the Helo is why in the world is that seat so freaking big?!!! That thing looks half the size of the platform. Cut that in half and shave 1.5 lbs off and put the dang platform cables on the outside now you’re talking!

Has anyone went out in some cold (30°) or so weather and set these 2 stands next to each other. One thing i hated about that lwcg stand is it was so loud. You cam locked that stand and deer 3 hollers over were jumping.

I don't know about the hunting beast stand. But its machined out so I just figured cast would be quieter. Thats the worst part about mobile hunting is the crrr crr crr setting sticks and the stand. Definetly dont need the crrrr + tinggggg to seal the deal of every critter knowing something aint right.

After several consecutive seasons in the saddle, I will say that the helo with two beast minis has fully reconverted me back into the treestand universe.

Still wear my recon as my harness though for those times I want to switch things up or one stick to gain a little height.

For the first time, I have no desire to switch up my get-up.

Not saying I don’t believe you but my .5 stand makes zero noise cold or warm, one thing I can’t stand is a loud stand.

I have the same experience.

Louder if you bang it against something metal yes. But underfoot, it's been fantastic.

I gave away my cast LW to a friend.

I assume you’re using aiders or do you only go 2 sticks high?

I’m about 95% right where you are with the Helo vs “proper” saddle hunting.

Right, I’m using two 3-step amsteel aiders. So simple and fast. 18’ to platform.

What shoulder straps are those?

Gregory A3 air. Very comfy. Had an REI gift card so I got these instead of some of the more usual options.

This thread ruined me and made me buy a helo. It’s quiet if you ask me. Easy to put up. Light. I haven’t noticed noise that bugged me in the cold and I spent two days of snow in it during our muzzle loader season. It may have ruined me for a saddle as well.

I put a loop under the seat with a G hook so I can use the seat as a shelf. Then made a cinch strap in the same manner for my sticks and pack. I’m running 3 LW mini sticks with 18” step, Amsteel 2 step aiders on each stick. I’m gonna throw on some stick talons and put muddy pro steps on those sticks and add a 4th. That’ll get me stupid high. I’ll also do poor man’s beast stick mods to lighten them up. Not that they’re heavy.

That’s a sweet looking setup. I have 4 beast sticks and the Helo. Still trying to figure out a good setup and how everything can fit together. This gives me some ideas though.

There is no way I could sit in a hang-on like I do in a saddle. Before saddles I hunted out of Hang-on stands and to me they were very uncomfortable. I been at the saddle game a longtime and it's so much more comfortable for me .

I still get pretty comfortable in my Millenium stands. But I'm with you, cast and machined seats with a foam pad are not comfortable at all for me.

The hybrid thing has been great for my comfort. Unless you prefer to use ROS and straddle the tree, hybrid can offer the best of both worlds.
