Team 9 2019 Discussion Thread

Went out on Saturday for my first official hunt in the saddle. Aside from climbing a dead tree, then changing my mind on said tree and climbing down, forgetting my aider at the dead tree and having to go back to get it, everything went pretty well. Saw two small does and one shooter doe but I decided to let her go. I didn't want to burn that spot on a doe. I was about 3/4 of a mile from my truck so if I was gonna drag one out, I wanted it to be worth my effort.

I found several scrapes just off my cam about 40 yards down an old long road bed but nothing on my camera (also my stand location). Should I still hunt where I had camera or move over to scrape location?

Last year I was hunting where my camera is this year and a mature buck I had on camera numerous times in a different spot came down that logging road right into my area and layed down. I didnt feel I had a ethical shot as he was facing me for about 45 minutes. The year prior I screwed up on biggest dear I probably will ever have a shot at on the other end of same old road bed. This year something is rubbing and scraping the area but to heck but somehow avoiding my cameras. The game never ends.

Does any of you gents know how to hunt the “J Hook” buck move? The road with several scrapes runs on the north side of a knob from southwest to northeast slightly. Friday is calling for rain with winds out of the south but saturday (my hunt day), winds will be out of the North (blowing back towards truck/highway)with highs in the mid 60’s and lows in the upper 30’s. ( last week was in the 80’s/90’s.) What are the chances this buck comes to these scrapes after the rain? I first noticed these scrapes friday with a down pour yesterday if that matters.

3 hours of hunting has never gone as fast as tonight went. I went out to a small patch of public land along side a back road and once I got all set up and settled in I could hear some snap of sticks and scraps/rubs what sounded about 100 or so yards west of me. Nothing ever came into view (I was about 25ft up) but man I couldn’t take my eyes off that direction. Going back there tomorrow and Gods be willing, going to pop a couple cherries and bring me home a buck. Fingers crossed!!!

Never heard of it, but it sounds like a good set up!

Got to get out this past weekend and I'll make this short.......NOTHING!
You're not alone. I've had 9 sits this year all in different spots and have yet to see an antler, any antler . . . from the stand, from the walk, from the truck . . . nothing. I have had does in where if my nose was dripping they'd have gotten wet but its to early in the year for that. I will say its pretty green here still though and visibilities tough. Last night was the first spot I've sat in that I could have shot more than 20 yards.

It is great getting out in the woods again regardless. Things will pick up. Looks like another cold front coming through this weekend so it'll be wet hunting but hopefully it gets those bucks up and moving around a bit more.

Yeah it was the same in Roscommon state land. Leaves are just starting to turn and I had little shooting windows. I only saw 3 does my whole time out.
