This is meant as no offense whatsoever, but from a technical standpoint this thread is like shoveling gravel into a wood chipper!

I’ve never figured it out. All I can get is a blank map. I’m technically challenged obviously!

Saddle Hunters,
Very often on this site people are looking for other Saddleers in their neck of the woods. I thought it would be nice to have a little map showing where we all are. So, I built a custom google map for us.

You can be as specific (your actual address) or as general (city/state) as you'd like.

You can view the map and add yourself by following the directions here.

You can view the map on your phone (Google maps app), but you must add yourself on a desktop computer.

Here is the link to the map.
Nice done.

Looks like someone deleted all the info on the map. Awesome.

I have a backup of the map, but we'll lose A LOT OF PEOPLE.

Anyone have a better idea of how to manage this? Should I lock it down and only allow a few admins to add people? Maybe people could post here and every few days one of the admins can add them?

Restricting access to edit is probably the only way to save it from us

It'd be neat to lock down edit access to only a select few users/accounts. Then take one of those accounts/credentials and store it with the forum. Then build a xenforo addon to allow members to set their location (similar to setting their birthday/etc in their profile) and have the addon add them to the map on their behalf.

I have ZERO development experience with Xenforo so I have no idea how complicated that would be, however it appears they have some relatively decent developer documentation here

I've been looking into options to move this onto the saddlehunter domain and find a better solution. I ran into some problems last time I loaded it as well. I'll keep you guys in the loop, it will probably be a winter project.
