New Video on my Helium Stick System

I like the one aider method. I always worried about them flapping in the wind. Plus this will make packing the sticks up cleaner than having an aider on each step to deal with. Nice job Dave. Thanks.

yes 24 inches would be achievable. I like getting the extra height with my strap though as I can lean back and use my hands to "put" the foot loop on - thus easier then just trying to lift my leg up - especially on cold mornings. But I don't see no problem with 24 inch steps. On first stick set I often get 7 foot as I can really lean back and force my foot higher with my hands - coming down no worries as it is hard to miss the ground. With the sticks as is I can get to 20 foot easily - and I very seldom need any more height.

I modified my sticks like Dave’s and put an adjustable aider attached to the top of the stick. With the adjustable aider you can get 90 inches per stick. I like it
The adjustable aider allows for yoga type movement of the leg without the yoga pants

Three hawk sticks weigh slightly more than my 2 muddy pros and have a wider spacing. I may put a cam cleat on them.

Wait a minute. How is that possible? Seriously?

I have not weighed them. Dave says he weighed his and they are slightly more than 7 pounds for three. Three muddy pros are over 9 pounds. So I save 2 pounds. So I am going by the weight Dave stated. I do not have a fancy scale

I think muddy claims there sticks are 2.5 pounds each on there web site. I have read elsewhere that they really weigh in over 3.
The hawk sticks are lighter to begin with before modification

Sorry I may have exaggerated or maybe I am correct. Only going by what is stated elsewhere I need to buy a scale.

That's good to know! My Muddy sticks are heavy. That's my only complaint. I need to look at some hawk sticks I suppose.

My modified helium sticks are right at 2#s each - 7 pounds includes my one long foot aider, and two bungies and 3 modified sticks.

8.5 sounds right for 3 Muddy Pros. My aiders are super light and don't add much weight at all - probably 6-8 oz. total for all three.

@ImThere - what are the black ties on your top steps? Are those for connecting them to the saddle on your climb up?

Who has chopped down the Helium stick to a 2 step system? What are the specs on those sticks?

Dave has the 2 step heliums. Mine are similar to his. They come out a little heavier because I prefer to use the cam buckle.

Yeah, I see that now. 22" might be perfect for me. The 18" Muddy's are just a tad on the short side. 22" would probably be my max. I'm seriously considering getting some of these to try them out.

They're only 100 bucks so they're not bad. I'm moving more and more away from sticks though...

But the 4" vs 3" isn't a huge deal. You will loose 9 inches total (but save a little weight). The bigt gains in height using the system are by attaching aiders to it. Use your tether as the "red squirrel aider" and you'll gain that height back plus more.

they hold the step together and I hang them from my molle belt like that while climbing.
