I think I just had an original thought.

So through my saddle hunting years I've asked myself one question most often. I carry a gun as part of my job, my daily routine and every place I go (more or less).

So in hunting from a saddle, I've put my gun on my pack in a holster, I've put it on my saddle...you name it. None of these solutions have scratched the itch.

I'm talking about a pistol.

So a thought occurred to me. Why not wear a shoulder holster that has suspender type attachments? This keeps the gun on my person, attaches it to my waistband or to the saddle (I haven't decided yet) and allows me to (possibly) use the holster in place of a back band and as suspenders to hold up my saddle.

Anyone tried or or have any ideas?

I’d like to know how that turns out if you’re able to make it work. What size gun are you usually carrying? I’ve carried a few times but I’ve simply got too much other stuff on me I’m juggling so I stopped.

I've used a gunfighters inc spectre shoulder holster for a springfield 10mm TRP (full size 1911) and it works fine while saddle hunting. The angle of the holster matters a lot with a larger firearm, in a shoulder holster, while saddle hunting with a bow.

I carry my G43 in a safariland paddle holster on my walk in but will put it in my pack before I climb and while I hunt. Once on the ground I’ll put it back on my hip. I have a full sized G22 but it’s just too heavy for me to carry comfortably with all my other gear

A light, crosssdraw tac vest might be a better option if you can find one in camo. I've got one on forest green that I might tiger stripe soon

I had Mile Isbell make me a similar one for my Glock 19 and a safari land als. Works great

I'd think the weight of the gun would negate the suspenders unless you're talking about a toy derringer
I'm talking about wearing it in a shoulder holster and then attaching the portion of the holster to the saddle that is below the mag pouch and holster itself. The gun is relatively heavy, but the length of the strap is the length of the strap. It won't pull the saddle down because it'll be above the saddle and attached evenly on both sides.

I'm carrying a Smith 2.0 compact. Not unbearably heavy but heavy enough to get in the way sometimes.

Why not use a shoulder or chest rig?
That is what I'm talking about. A Shoulder rig. Lol. I'm kinda considering adding buckles to one to put my binos on, too. Think shoulder holster with binos on your chest and an X behind your back, over your shoulders and then attached on either side to the molle webbing on your saddle. This holds the saddle in place and allows you to have your bino harness on without much fuss.

Yeah I went from carrying my full size 45 auto to a compact 9, but I’m still not comfortable with it with all the other stuff I juggling. Especially when it’s 95 degrees out.

I have a shield 45 and but just bought a shield 9mm. The 45 is too heavy/bulky for every day concealed carry. Haven’t decided if I will keep the 45 yet or not, as I do like it for a potential bear deterrent. But in 10+ years of traversing the big woods I’ve yet to stumble upon a bear…

If I were to carry either my G43 or my J frame I think I would just use the sticky type holster and stick it in a the chest rig bino pouch or a fanny pack. If I were going out west where there are real predators I would pack my G20 in a Kenai chest rig. I think the shoulder setups would be great until you want to carry a pack.
