So the upper was definitely ran over by a truck. I'll take pictures later but I'm not sure how confident l am in using it even if I'm able to bend the aluminum back to the original shape. I'm actually thinking of cutting off the rail section and turning it into an open shot model. Not a metallurgist, but from what l understand aluminum get weak and snap, steel stretches.
You guys thinking of cutting off that Viper front rail section may ruin the seat climbing portion. As the bar maintains the rigidity of the upper half and limits the amount of flex going on back at the tree. The early Cobras (no bar front) were recalled for cracking. I had one which much to my surprise, had developed multiple cracks on both sides after ~2yrs of use. Which Summit replaced with a new one free of charge including shipping.
If you do plan to use just the base as a platform buy a pair of their utility straps to cinch it to the tree with. One strap run through both sides at the back inboard of the teeth wrapped around the tree and cinched will make it rock solid and much safer stand alone, without the top section.
