New Video on my Helium Stick System

I made a short video this evening outlining the modifications I do to my helium sticks, how I carry them, and use them to ascend and descended a tree. Lot's of options out there now days.... this is just what I use.

Dave great video and Im looking forward to seeing your future videos which im sure will prove insightful.

So i have 3 unmodified sticks with 3 step aiders and im getting well over 26ft now, but i agree there is some wasted room there with the steps so close. I want to cut the second set of sticks I have. Im wondering are you cutting the stick from the bottom or from the top and then just reposition the steps and brackets??

Great video. In hind sight would you make the steps further apart. I see your aider must be at least 24 inches. Or 46 if using the red method.

I think you are about my size would 24 inch steps not work for you

yes 24 inches would be achievable. I like getting the extra height with my strap though as I can lean back and use my hands to "put" the foot loop on - thus easier then just trying to lift my leg up - especially on cold mornings. But I don't see no problem with 24 inch steps. On first stick set I often get 7 foot as I can really lean back and force my foot higher with my hands - coming down no worries as it is hard to miss the ground. With the sticks as is I can get to 20 foot easily - and I very seldom need any more height.

Thanks DaveT I did not know that "single aider you move up the tree with you" trick, that could be useful for me.

Love the idea of just taking the aider up with you. Nice thing is that will work with any stick. No disassembling sticks required.

Less aiders to carry too. What knot are you using on that aider and how long is your webbing to start.

I would like to see a demo of you climbing and setting up platform and bow and backpack the whole process. It would help to see where I could tweak on my system.I know it’s asking a lot but if you have time it would be appreciated.

I wish I had someone to film me - but I will see what I can come up with. I use a water knot on the mil webbing and I am not sure how long it was I just tied it up, adjusted to where it gives me a full 24 inch step below my bottom steps on stick. When I order mil webbing I order by the roll and just cut it after I tie something up.

Awesome video Dave. I enjoyed it.

Great video Dave. I have watched my aiders flap around and wondered about that spooking deer. . May have to try your method.

Been thinking about it all year and had been using several versions but wasn't 100% happy with them- then when the Wild Edge and Red Squirrel aider ideas came out it finally clicked, make it longer and hang it over the top steps. I ran out and tried it immediately and it was to easy. I tried the jim stepps with rope ascender foot loop (Red's method) and it isn't for me as it takes far more balance and if the tree has lean watch out.... I set up very close to bedding and low movement and being quiet are critical to my set up - I looked like a flounder out of water with the Red method - but with sticks it was a refining of a system I have been using for many years now. Been using it ever since. One slight mod I made last week - I am now using 12cm dyneema sling material and it rocks..... folds up into a much tighter package. Like it so much I made a lineman's belt with a Kong Duck at lunch today out of it.

Great video. I like the single and moveable aider. I am going to try it this weekend with my muddy pros (I have an aider for each stick now).

I never got to modifying my heliums yet (I don't have the tools at the moment). That will be an after season project. Buying tools and modding the heliums.

Thanks for sharing.

Crap.
Inspiration.

But 12cm sling? Typo or am I missing something Dave? Anything useful would be much longer? 120?
