What I loved about that show was the fact that even though Bo and Luke could not carry guns due to their records, it was perfectly fine to drive around with a bow and arrows with dynamite strapped to them. That never seemed to raise any eyebrows.

Can't really speak for their high FOC arrows but I can tell you that those old Martin bows were real arrow lobbers. High speed for the day I suppose and this bow killed me a bunch of deer but it's trajectory with a 125grn head on a XX75 arrow much different than my longbows.
On a side note, you didn't want to hold draw very long, 50% let off at best and the bow itself weighs a ton. Not sure which arm tired first.

Some scenes actually showed them using a release of some sort. I actually went on a dive to research what it was because the d loop was under the arrow. I made a post on it over on Archery Talk and some of the old timers chimed in and explained what type of release it was. I cant remember it now. I'll have to go check.

I can see it now... "The Bo and Luke challenge". Who can kill a deer with a bow and grind it for burger at the same time.
Found it. You can see Bo shooting a release - apparently they were called Rope releases? The rope went around the string then back to the release, opposed to having a d loop on the string and just a hook on the release.

Wasnt uncommon for folks to launch them when they first came out because everyone had only shot fingers. Plenty of bow hands got whacked and some release went to infinity and beyond never to be seen again.
You whippersnappers missed out on the days when your release dictated what kind of rest you used.
Most releases locked 90° to the string so the release effect on the string was like that of fingers. With this conventional wisdom said you needed some sort of X-axis stabilization.
Then came the caliper releases that locked in line with the string and did not creat any side to side string travel. With this you could get away with simple two prong plunger rests like the TM Hunter.
I shot a browning release that clipped 90° to the string with a SuperDoodle rest for years before lost the browning and switched to a caliper release.
Now God has given us the Whisker Biscuit rest so we can do whatever we dang well please.
