The Official Ground Hunting Thread

I’m only posting this for people trying to follow to go to the correct form to talk about the chair!

Just became familiar with these, thanks to the BIL:

I use the saddle gear to ground hunt also....find a good tree with cover, tether in, and wait. Rake away leaves around the base of the tree and u got quiet 360 shooting just like when u elevated... This oak flat didn't have any trees suitable for climbing..

Do you put up the platform on the base of the tree or are you standing on the ground? Thx

Almost everytime just right on the ground but if the tree in water I'll set my platform. I gained a ton of confidence with my asat suit this turkey season and plan to sit the saddle on the ground much more than I've done in the past this coming season. The thick terrain around here allows me to do this... I'm not sure how well this would carry over to peeps further north with more open woods

I really like this idea, especially in early season.
I usually searching for a good spot to get elevated....but it's gotta be a real good spot for me to want to climb majority of the time. So as I'm walking around if I come into an area I think there might be some critters but don't see anything that I see worth spending the time/energy going up a tree I look for a tree with a little cover around it that I can pop a squat for a while and rest/observe the area....in that pic I was slowly walking down a semi deep flooded ditch and I bumped 2 does. I was down in the ditch and the wind was in my favor so they didn't spook too bad... so I stepped up 1 step out of the water and tethered in with those wispy palmettos breaking up my outline. It was gun season and does weren't allowed but I was thinking maybe a buck might be hanging around. I sat that spot for an hour or two and didn't see anything else. Unclip, pick up gun, and take off. Even when I'm finding stuff that I want to get elevated and sit on I'm usually only going up 1 move now a days. Hahahaha. Getting lazy I guess.
