Forget that noise. I just ordered arrows for my new compound. Checked the spine chart...yup, settles in perfectly at a 300. Gold Tip Hunter XT, $83 on Amazon. I've shot them most of my life and generally lose them before I break one...and that's usually by shooting it with another arrow.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I agree, the XTs are awesome, tough as nails, and I used them for awhile, but wasn't happy with my drop and trajectory. I shoot a 250 spine and those are 10.6 gpi, so with a ctc of 29.5 I'm already over 300 grains before insert, broadhead, nock, vanes, and wrap if I choose. So I set out to get a lighter arrow to where I could keep my FOC around 15% without shooting a 600 grain arrow.
The smaller diameter victory shafts do that for me. At only 8.8 gpi and after adding components I'm staying around 450 grains and keeping my arrow speed up past 280fps, while maintaining 15% FOC. I cant do that with the gold tips even with my draw length and draw weight.
