What did you do today that’s related to saddle hunting?

It is a phenomena called "Bergmann's Rule", which states that species with a wide area of distribution tend to vary in body size in relation to climate. So FL deer that have lived countless generations in the south tend to have significantly smaller bodies due to "thermoregulation"...

Just outside Lakeland....middle of the state. I plan to get him in the 'new' Wood saddle this fall and see if he likes this side of the bowhunting gig. He is a really good guy......smart, loyal and also a good shot.

What did you do today that’s related to saddle hunting?

No.....ones who are employed in education, paid off their student loans and are contributing members of society.....IE pay their taxes. The kind you can be proud of, not visiting in an orange jump suit.

That is so cool! I'm way too low budge to afford one, but I sure enjoy the photo. As soon as I get our land paid off (next spring hopefully), I have plans to put on a pre-made "man shed" that will double for storage and a cot for an over-nighter when needed.

What did you do today that’s related to saddle hunting?

Plus you aren't dealing with gators, venomous snakes and large spiders. Our son-in-law (Michigan transplant to FL) did a draw hunt and encountered every one of those in a single weekend. That was his one and only excursion to hunting FL. Now he takes a week of vacation, flies back to the...

What did you do today that’s related to saddle hunting?

Do you find condensation to be an issue sleepling in the back of your enclosed pickup in the falltime? My dad and I used to do that on air matresses many years ago in the back of his pickup and I recall waking up in the morning with the inside top dripping wet. Maybe alone vs two guys there...

Michigan meet up May 11th @Sleepy Holliw State Park, 11 A.M.

I'm bummed I was not able to make it. Mother's Day weekend, schedule and allerfies have been horrible the past couple weeks. I hope you had a great time. Looking forward to a report....photos?

    Ropeman1 recall

Now that you mention "test tree"......I did a testing run yesterday morning. Only single stick high.....not 37'......so I must be pretty wimpy? The Wood Classic saddle I picked up a few weeks ago fared pretty well.....thank you FCS. My replacement bridge of 8mm Oplux was rock solid, along with...

Field testing day.....pleased with my results

This winter I spent some time and money expanding my saddle hunting options for 2024.....well at least hopefully. I bought a 5th 20'" Beast Gear stick and BAT mini-platform as the core of a ring of steps setup I was building, taking Red's suggestion to use a OCB for the locking mechanism. I put...

    Ropeman1 recall

True, but with a double sewn eye cord for a hitch like the Stitch, it isn't so much cheaper. It certainly was with the Longhorn Agile on my main tether.

    Ropeman1 recall

Thanks for the heads-up. Mine is NOT in the batch number, thankfully. I shifted to hitches on my tether this winter and am not using a mechanical device any longer.

Thanks again for reaching out. If I have any future questions, I will indeed message you directly. I'm hoping to use it in the early season and on hunts where I have a longer hike in.

Michigan meet up May 11th @Sleepy Holliw State Park, 11 A.M.

I hope to make it next Saturday.....not 100% sure of my schedule. 2023 was my first year of saddle hunting and I've learned a LOT.....but am a stick ascender. Anything you folks have that can be demonstrated 'live' will be appreciated.....one stick, various rope methods, etc.

What did you do today that’s related to saddle hunting?

I knew a well regarded SH member built the Wood saddles and they received good reviews, so when I ran across this one virtually unused, I could not pass it up. No idea you still worked on them or had parts. Thanks for reaching out and I will keep you in mind if I have further questions. Below...
